HILTON HOME2 SUITES PHILADELPHIA MARKS FIRST YEAR OF SUSTAINABLE OPERATION
Hilton Home2 Suites Philadelphia hotel recently marked the one-year anniversary of its opening and is proving the success of Hilton’s innovative approach to “green” hospitality. The nine-story, 248-suite hotel, located across from the Pennsylvania Convention Center at 1200 Arch Street in Center City represents the largest Home2 Suites to open since the inception of the brand in 2011. Energy efficiency is one of the most important aspects in the property's design and integral to Hilton’s Home2 brand concept. The building is designed to perform with energy efficiency 30% better than the base line model, which exceeded requirements of the EnergyWorks Loan Fund, a program administered by Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation and The Reinvestment Fund.
Home2’s design also reduces the flow of storm water into the city’s sewer system by holding and using a portion of it on site. At the top of the building an extensive green roof absorbs rainwater and helps reduce heat island affect. At street level raised landscaped areas and tree pits absorb storm water directly from the canopy roof and sidewalk surface.
The hotel’s guestrooms have motion-sensing lights, television sets which turn off when not in use, chairs made from recycled Coke bottles and tables made from recycled bowling alley lanes. The hotel also features an indoor saline pool, meeting space and a lobby designed to emphasize community spaces encouraging social interaction between guests.
The hotel was completed as part of a $60 million mixed-used project which includes 9,800 square feet of retail and restaurant space along 12th and Arch Streets. The hotel has a distinctive Philadelphia urban flair with high ceilings, natural woodwork and quarried wall stone. In the lobby is an oversized display of a Philadelphia historical map. The property features the largest variety of room types for any Home2 Suites, including a mix of studio, one-bedroom and connecting suites.
