Cope Linder Architects designed 1000 Chesterbrook to reflect the values of the owner and to serve as executive headquarters for the owner’s real estate development business. Located in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, the three story building employs a U-shaped plan to fit the particular site conditions while providing 60,000 SF floor plates with extensive perimeter exposure. A distinctive landscaped courtyard leads to the entrance and a through-lobby connects to the parking decks at the rear of the site. 180,000 SF of office space on three levels enjoys an abundance of natural light, a result of the plan configuration. The lobby is detailed with horizontal grain cherry wall paneling, polished metal accents and an elegant stairway rising to the second floor. The glass wall at the north side of the lobby provides views into the garden courtyard and creates an effect of space flowing continuously from inside to outside. A covered walkway and vegetated trellis add privacy to the courtyard and provide access to the 600 car parking structure. The landscape design preserves natural site features, incorporates salvaged limestone boulders and rustic bluestone pavers and recalls the architectural heritage of the Chester County setting.
